What to expect:
Following an initial phone/email intake, the first 2-3 sessions will include:
gathering information about your current concerns and any relevant background history
providing initial impressions and strategies (a working diagnosis may be discussed, if appropriate)
discussing and reviewing an individualized treatment plan/approach
Psychotherapy can take many configurations including individual, parent-only, and/or family sessions. It can also be short- or long-term, depending on the clients' concerns and treatment goals. Your clinician will discuss with you and your family about your individualized treatment plan.
Parent consultations provide individualized support and coaching to caregivers who may be experiencing challenges with limit setting, managing their child's emotions, supporting their child with mental health difficulties, and adjusting to new family circumstances. The number of sessions varies depending on the presenting concerns.
Engage Psychology offers evidence-based parenting interventions including Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), Incredible Years (IY), and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT).
Comprehensive mental health assessments aim to better understand a child or adolescent's social, relational, and emotional functioning, and evaluate any potential mental health disorders. An assessment report detailing the results of the evaluation (including diagnoses, if applicable) and recommendations will be provided. At the discretion of the child and their family, assessment reports can be shared with schools and other healthcare providers. Assessments are typically completed over 2-4 sessions.
Engage Psychology does not currently offer psychoeducational assessments (i.e., cognitive and academic testing).
